This week I would like to share with you our new music clip for World Full of Angels, which is the theme song for my Ordinary Angels Podcast.

I’d also like to share with you some more reasons behind why we wrote the song and why I have chosen it for my Ordinary Angels Podcast.

The first verse is all about me – literally. At thirty years old I decided to leave my husband of ten years and venture out on my own as a single mum with two gorgeous girls in tow, Amy who was 6 and Jayde who was 4 at the time. It was not an easy decision, in fact it took me six years to make and I knew that once made, there would be serious and long lasting repercussions, especially with my family.

I actually don’t have any regrets at all – it was what I needed to do and the nearly 25 years of happiness since have proven that. But it was hard – divorce nearly always is.

My parents in particular had a really hard time with it, as did many of my friends and certainly it affected my work – I was in the Christian music industry and so I had to step back from it all and re-evaluate all of my values and beliefs. For a time I hit rock bottom.

At one point, it was me standing at the edge of that road (in the exact same spot as the music clip was filmed) and I swayed as I started to lean forward towards the oncoming truck.

And as in the clip, there was a hand on my shoulder pulling me back – my angel, who helped me save myself from the brink, not only physically, but he helped bring me back to the realities of life – life for myself, life for my children, life for those who loved me.

I stepped back, took a deep breath, and started again.

That hand belonged to my earth angel – his name is David.

The second verse is a reflection on what happened here in Kinglake and surrounds during the Black Saturday fires in 2009. Many people physically lost their homes, and even those of us who didn’t, we lost so much more on that day. Too much to count. But we also gained much. We felt the love and concern of the nation. We experienced great sacrifice from others to help us, and earth angels came flooding in to listen, cry with us and help us to laugh again.

Brad (our actor in the clip) lost his house that day, so it isn’t so much ‘acting’ but rather remembering for him as he did the filming for us. The look on his face is genuine – I think that look says it all.

Even wider than those two verses is the knowledge that through the ups and downs of life, the ebbs and flows, the confusion and clarity, we don’t walk alone. No matter what you believe spiritually, we need the connection we have with each other - I don’t know that anyone can deny that people need people. We need to know that we have angels, as well as that we are angels for others.

And if you have faith that says there is more than just what we see, then we can continue to explore these connections, beyond the obvious, into the physical, emotional and spiritual.

As we open ourselves up to each other, we can learn to be safely vulnerable – to open our eyes to see our angels and know that we can be safe to be angels too.
